Liam Ó Maonlaí Born : Dublin 1964.
Was taught to sing at age four in his native language . At nine he began playing tin whistle . This led him on a journey of discovery that continues to this day ,almost fifty years later . His exposure to the media of his time led him to develop an interest in pop , rock and contemporary music. From age 19 he has been committed to a life of performing worldwide exploring his own and international traditional music. He formed Hothouse Flowers in 1985By 1988 they had sold out concerts in stadiums worldwide , and had a series of chart topping Albums . In 1993 he opened his horizons releasing his first solo traditional album ‘rian ‘ . He had collaborated with musicians from many disciplines and traditions including Carly Simon :USA , Afel Boucoum :Mali, Yungchen Lhamo :Tibet : Guo Yue : China , Sinéad o Connor :Ireland , Sam Amidon : USA , Midge Ure : Scotland among many many others.
His solo album Rian became a dance theatre hit winning an award in New York and playing in Paris , Lyon , Hong Kong , Singapore , London , Dublin, New York , Sydney and Wellington . He continues to deepen his relationship with music travelling extensively and playing to sold out houses across the world . He will open the world Joyce anniversary celebration in Athens in September . He intends to record ,write and perform until his time on earth has passed.
